Road Trip Rides - 2026 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid

The Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid (PHEV) first landed on Canadian shores in September 2012 and is one of the most renowned vehicles of its kind in Canada. In 2025, it has one of the highest amounts of all-electric range in a PHEV across all types of vehicles.

It was fully redesigned in 2023, earning a plethora of awards including World Car Design of the Year, North American Car of the Year, Best New Car and more.
This unique, fuel-sipping hatchback is an excellent Canadian road trip chariot for those looking to go further between gas station stops on their journey.

With its unique and funky design, the Toyota Prius PHEV boasts fabulously frugal fuel consumption and a comfortable ride. Add in the generous amount of fully electric range and it's the best of both worlds.
Cruising at highway speeds can be a bit noisy between engine and road noise but crank up the tunes or strike up meaningful conversations with your passengers to diminish the noise.

At lower speeds with the hybrid system engaged, you'll hear the whispering whirr of the battery as you traverse urban areas.
There's plenty of modern technology here, comfortable seats and a decent standard audio system to serenade you.
Having driven several Prius' over my 10+ year career, this is by far the best one to date as it's one of the most balanced PHEV hatchback/sedan offerings on the modern market.
You'll likely stop more for bio breaks than fuel fill ups.
