I’d been to Regina nearly a decade ago and enjoyed my time there. So it was high time for me to make a return visit because a lot changes over the years. I saw and did new things, met new people, ate at new places and had an excellent time throughout.
Follow my lead as you explore the capital city of Saskatchewan or use this as a guide to create your own adventures.
Also, this is all written by a human. Me. No garbage AI slop here.
Home Base: The Hotel Saskatchewan
Centrally located, it’ll celebrate 100 years in 2027, it’s a meagre four kilometres from the Regina airport, there’s free wi-fi and, if you’re like me, you’ll appreciate the quick elevator service.
My bed was comfortable, the service was good and there’s plenty of parking on-site.
The Regina Antique Mall
Three floors of stuff and things await you here, so set aside extra time as you browse. From old license plates to vintage signs, books, toys, art, furniture, jewelry and so much more, this is the most impressive antique shop I’ve experienced. Spanning in excess of 21,000 square feet, it was founded in 1980 via a smaller footprint called Antiques from A to Z on Victoria Ave. In 1987, the same year I was nine, the Regina Antique Mall opened and the rest, like the contents inside, is history.
Fun fact; I was looking for a Saskatchewan license plate that had 1978 on it but alas, they stopped putting the year of issue on plates in 1976.

Elle’s Cafe & Ice Cream
Scooting to the top of your social media feed with her playful antics and love for Regina, Elle’s Cafe & Ice Cream is serving up scores of smiles. From a smart variety of flavours, cakes and more, it’s become a hub for fun, inclusiveness and to me, will become the most photographed spot in the city much sooner than later.
1.2 km: Distance from The Hotel Saskatchewan
The Royal Saskatchewan Museum
Their mandate includes “The Royal Saskatchewan Museum furthers an understanding of Saskatchewan's natural history and Indigenous cultures, past and present.”
It’s an excellent way to become immersed in the history of the province through though impressive displays and a plethora of information.
Enjoy their numerous galleries, which include the famous T-Rex's, Indigenous, Earth and Life Sciences and more which cover two floors.
They’ve packed in so much knowledge that’s approachable and engaging.
Admission is by donation, the visuals are splendid and there’s lots of free parking.

A Birding Tour with The Wild View
My introduction to birding was, by my account, a soaring success. The majority of my bird knowledge is tied to baseball teams, so I had a small wingspan of previous knowledge.
As the tour went on and through the wildly enthusiastic tour guide, I could identify a few of species and have an appreciation for the patience that birding requires.
The three hour tour saw us walk through Wascana Marsh in Douglas Park.
I received a report of what we specifically saw and the number of species, an impressive 41, which would make Dave Matthews happy. We walked approximately two kilometres round trip, were given binoculars by guide and owner, Jenn Smith Nelson and I’d do it again.
Various starting points
Breweries in Regina
Rebellion Brewing
Serving up cool craft beer and a cornerstone of the community, Rebellion Brewing is a must-visit in the city. There’s a variety of beer without it being overwhelming, there’s a relaxed and approachable vibe throughout and simply put, it’s a fun place to be.
Bonus points go to always supporting the community and superb social posts.

Malty National Brewing
I enjoy cover names, and this place sure does have one! Pouring some sweet small batch IPAs, stouts and unusual ales, their patio feels like your favourite backyard.
The indoor taproom is inviting and if you’re there in summer, know that everything tastes better outdoors. It’s practically scientific.

Restaurants in Regina
The Cure is staff-owned and while I’m sure the menu items are delightful, myself and two friends ordered two orders of fries because they were that good. Seriously.
1.2 km: Distance from The Hotel Saskatchewan
The Bone and Broth Kitchen is a great lunch spot for sandwiches and made-from-scratch desserts and they’ve got gluten-friendly options.
400 metres: Distance from The Hotel Saskatchewan
Crave Kitchen & Wine Bar is locally owned and within the walls of this majestic building, there’s upscale dishes and cool cocktails.
200 metres: Distance from The Hotel Saskatchewan
The Everyday Kitchen has the famous sourdough donuts, which I had two of. And if I was younger, I’d have had four. Gen X Jay just can’t do four donuts anymore.
The Brown Butter Cinnamon Bun I had probably made up for the two donuts I didn’t have. Whatever. It was delicious and I’d do it again.
