Road Trip Rides: 2026 Kia K4 Hatchback

Kia has brought the function-driven hatchback to Canada again! Paired with it’s sedan sibling, this gives consumers two excellent choices in the compact vehicle segment, more so with the practicality of a hatchback. Kia Canada says that customer demand fuelled the decision to bring a hatchback to the market and one that should be well-received.
The 2026 Kia K4 hatchback competes against the Mazda 3 Sport, Toyota Corolla hatchback and Honda Civic hatchback.

Cargo space is generous here, with 629 litres with the rear seats up and more than doubling to 1,680 litres with those seats down. The hatch opening is wide, making it easy to load and unload items.
There’s also a spare tire opposed to a tire repair kit, which provides peace of mind on the road.

Rear seat space is adequate for a compact vehicle, with decent foot, leg and knee space for most adults.
Interestingly, it’s a whopping 11-inches shorter than the K4 sedan but 110 pounds heavier.
A quirk is that the exterior rear door handle is positioned high on the door trip, effectively making it “hidden” and provides cleaner visual lines.

My tester had the turbocharged engine, which fared quite well considering the small footprint of the K4 hatchback. Acceleration was zippy and brisk, cornering was done with ease thanks to its low centre of gravity and there’s a noticeable amount of fun to be had here. The lower output engine should also fare well for those who don’t need the extra oomph beneath their right foot.
Parking is a breeze and maneuverability is excellent with its small size.

Inside, the K4 hatchback comes well equipped, with large screens, a modern interior, comfortable seats and a bigger-than-it-seems cabin.
Quirky bits include the heated and available cooled seat controls, along with the heated steering wheel control on the door panel, the part square-part circle shaped steering wheel, a volume scroller instead of a dial and as with all Kia gasoline cars, a gear selector lever opposed to hybrids/PHEV’s/EV’s, which have the gear selector as a stalk off the steering wheel.
Retractable cup holders create additional storage space and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto take up the entire 12.3-inch infotainment screen when used.
As with all newer Kia models, the interior looks good, feels good and is a great place to spend time, both in traffic and on longer drives.
