The bruschetta at Café Flora at the New Brunswick Botanical Garden underpromises and overdelivers/Jennifer Bain

 WHAT: Bruschetta

WHERE: Café Flora at the New Brunswick Botanical Garden, Edmundston, New Brunswick

PRICE: $12.95

DISH DECONSTRUCTION: A slice of hearty toast is topped with confit tomatoes, bocconcini and microgreens, drizzled with a balsamic glaze and sided by green and black olives.

WHY: Bruschetta is usually an appetizer that doesn’t excite me, but this one was practically a full meal and bursting with fresh flavours. Sitting on a terrace overlooking the gardens was a perfect pitstop while driving between Toronto and Newfoundland.

FUN FACT: Open May 23 to August 23 this year, Café Flora is tucked inside a botanical garden’s visitor centre and serves weekday lunches and weekend brunches. The garden-inspired lunch menu revolves around salads, sandwiches and a soup of the day but includes burgers, fish and seafood. Brunch focuses on eggs, waffles and French toast.

The New Brunswick Botanical Garden puts out some of its 12 mosaïculture structures each year. Like this bison from 2025, they’re filled with plants/Jennifer Bain
