2026 Mazda CX-30.

With soaring fuel prices and a lean toward more “affordable” vehicles, subcompact crossovers can be a smart choice.
Enter the 2026 Mazda CX-30, which in 2025, accounted for 20.2% of all Mazda Canada sales.
With Mazda being renowned for having one of, if not the best, driving dynamics/feel in the non-luxury world, the CX-30 is a lifted version of the Mazda 3 hatchback.
If you’re researching the 2026 Mazda CX-30, you’re also likely digging into the Toyota Corolla Cross, Subaru Crosstrek, Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Volkswagen Taos, Honda HR-V and others.

Starting in the rear, the CX-30’s trunk space is on the smaller size among competitors. You can still fit a good amount of stuff and things in there but for example, the Nissan Kicks has over 250 litres more.
The counterpoint is that rear seat space is quite generous, making longer trips more comfortable than some competitors.

The 2026 Mazda CX-30 engine offers a turbocharged engine.

Mazda has one of, if not the, best driving dynamics in the non-luxury world and the CX-30 is, at its core, a lifted Mazda 3. And for reference, the Mazda 3 is easily the best driving compact sedan in its class, so yes, the CX-30 offers the most exciting and engaging drive feel/dynamics in the subcompact class.
If you want good, opt for the non-turbo engine. It performs well and gets you up to speed adequately, with excellent cornering capabilities.
If you want good in all caps, bolded and underlined, the turbo engine is the one to get. There’s much more oomph beneath your right foot, complete with brisk acceleration.
Simply put, functional is the non-turbo; fun is the turbo.

Its small footprint makes it easy to park and highly maneuverable in tighter roads and parking spaces.
Currently, the CX-30 is gasoline only and hopefully there’s a hybrid/plug-in hybrid version in the coming years, as nearly all other competitors offer an electrified version.

All modern Mazda interiors have an elevated look and feel thanks to their premium approach, with the CX-30’s excelling in minimalism and function. This is one of the last vehicles to utilize a dial system to control the infotainment system, which is very user friendly. Physical climate controls and two analog dials in the instrument cluster bring a traditional feel, while the comfortable seats reduce driver fatigue.,

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, as are blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning.
The cabin is an excellent example of how to do more with less design-wise and not feel like you’re missing anything the competition offers.
