At Sprout Bread in Kelowna, B.C., sourdough toast comes with butter and a spread (although I’ve got PB and jam here)/Jennifer Bain
WHAT: “Toast And …”
WHERE: Sprout Bread, Kelowna, B.C.
PRICE: $8
DETAILS: Two scrumptious pieces of sourdough came with a side of butter and a choice of spread. I slathered Le Meadow’s Pantry raspberry and rose jam on my toast the first time and MUMGRY all-natural peanut butter the second time. Both those spreads are made by artisan food companies in B.C. Also on offer were strawberry balsamic jam, blueberry honey jam, orange marmalade, honey and cream cheese.
WHY I’m a toastaholic and earlybird. Sprout Bread is a community hub that opens daily at 7:30 a.m. and its bread is so good it shows up in bread baskets around town. It’s a joy to find a place that does such a good job of something so deceptively simple.
FUN FACT: Kelowna became Canada’s first and only UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in October 2025. “This recognition confirms what those in the Okanagan Valley have known for decades — Kelowna is a world-class centre for agriculture, culinary arts and beverages,” Mayor Tom Dyas said at the time.
